What you need to know about: Pets in the Cabin (PETC)

Below you will find the necessary information for PETC.

**Remember** this service is limited to a certain number of pets for each of our aircrafts; therefore, it is important to contact Aeromexico to confirm availability and issue the pet service. This service is not available in your GDS. 

1.1 Acceptance condition 

• Only cats and dogs are allowed in the cabin. 

• The maximum weight allowed for the pet is 9 kg including the carrier or container weight. 

• Pets must be at least 8 weeks old. 

• Breastfeeding animals and young animals will not be accepted. 

• Pets in veterinary treatment will not be accepted.

Pets that travel to London from Mexico.

If you travel from Mexico to London, you can only check-in your pet through Aeroméxico Cargo.

You must comply with the import and export processes through the International Pet and Animal Transportation Association (IPATA).

1.2 Restrictions 

Boarding and Premier lounges 

• Your pet must remain in their carrier or container before boarding, when entering the aircraft, and throughout the flight. The container must the Pet In Cabin (PETC) label, which will be fitted at check-in counters. 

• Access to Salon Premier will be allowed as long as the pet remains in its container and the customer is in charge of its care. 

During the flight 

• The pet flies at the expense of the client 

• The pet must travel in the same flight as its owner. 

• Only one pet per passenger is allowed. 

• No food or fluids can be given to the pet on board the plane. 

• Pets shall not be placed on seats intended for clients for any reason whatsoever, even if those seats are empty. 

• Will be assigned to passenger a window seat, except on emergency exit and bulkhead rows. With the exception of the Embraer 190 aircrafts in Premier Class, the maximum limit per flight is of one pet in the cabin and an aisle seat will be assigned. 

• If necessary, cleaning onboard the aircraft due to the pet in the cabin will be the responsibility of the customer. 

• Items like blankets and pillows, are exclusively for passenger use. 

• In case of emergency, oxygen cannot be supplied to a pet. 

• If a nearby passenger is allergic to the pet, another seat may be assigned. If there are no other seats available, the flight of the customer who travels with the pet will be changed, without any additional charge or penalties. No additional compensation will be applied as a result of this change. 

• The pet carrier in the cabin must always be placed under the seat, horizontally opposite to the customer. 

• Unaccompanied minors cannot fly with a pet in the cabin. 

• One pet may be carried onboard per passenger, emotional-support animals (ESAN) and service animals included—i.e., a client may NOT transport more 1 pet. 

• The pet service in cabin is only applicable to flights operated by Aeromexico. 

1.3 Documentation

All the service dogs must be at least 8 weeks old and meet the following requirements. 

Requirements for animal transportation within Mexican territory: 

• Vaccination record: up-to-date rabies vaccine, indicating date of application, period covered by vaccine, and product information (pets under 3 months of age are exempted from this requirement) 

 

• Certificate of Good Health, one original and one copy (valid for 5 days from date of issuance). Certificate must be extended by a veterinary physician on letterhead paper printed with the veterinary physician’s professional ID number and contain the following data: owner’s name and address. Animal’s breed, sex, age, and color. Departure and destination address. 

Requirements to transport animals exiting Mexico: 

• Vaccination record: up-to-date rabies vaccine, indicating date of application, period covered by vaccine, and product information (pets under 3 months of age are exempted from this requirement).

• If traveling to the U.S., the rabies vaccine must be administered to the pet 28 days prior to its arrival into the country. 

• Certificate of Good Health, one original and one copy (valid for 5 days from date of issuance). Certificate must be extended by a veterinary physician on letterhead paper printed with the veterinary physician’s professional ID number and contain the following data: owner’s name and address. Animal’s breed, sex, age, and color. Departure and destination address. 

• Animal Health Export Certificate from SAGARPA – SENASICA: issued by a veterinary physician on letterhead paper printed with the veterinary physician’s professional ID number) (except on flights into the U.S. and Canada). 

Note: specific requirements and conditions applicable per route must always be verified. 

Requirements to transport animals entering Mexico: 

• Vaccination Record 

• Certificate of Good Health issued by a veterinary physician (one original and one copy). The certificate will remain valid up to 15 days after date of issuance. Certificate must be extended on letterhead paper printed with the veterinary physician’s professional ID number and contain the following data: Owner’s name and address, animal’s breed, sex, age, color, departure and destination address. 

• Rabies vaccine, indicating date of application, period covered by vaccine, and product information. Pets under 3 months of age are exempted from this requirement. 

• Pet shall have been dewormed and deloused no less than six months prior to their arrival into Mexico; product date of application and name shall be stated. 

• For pets that left Mexico and are reentering Mexico no more than 15 days later, the same certificate of good health shall be accepted that was provided on the pet’s exit with a still-valid rabies vaccine. 

• In addition, the destination country’s requirements must be met, which the passenger shall consult with the destination country’s embassy or with SAGARPA-SENASICA’s. 

• Please make sure you meet every state requirement to enter and exit the country. 

Pets traveling into the U.S. *

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) reports that, as of December 1st 2021, dogs that have been in countries with a high risk of rabies (Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela) must have, at the time of their arrival to the United States, one of the following requirements:

• A valid rabies vaccination certificate issued in the United States (dogs must be microchipped and at least 6 months old).

• An import permit for dogs issued by the CDC.

Mexico is not on the list, but we must consider customers that originate in the previously mentioned countries and who connect in Mexico with their final destination in the United States. For more information click here.

Pets travelling from/into Colombia

Colombian Farming Institute (ICA) Resolution No. 1000164 of July 7, 2021 has established new requirements for dogs and cat entering, exiting, and transiting Colombia. These provisions shall apply to both company animals and those destined for commercial purposes. All customers are therefore liable to make sure their ESAN, AVIH, and PETC comply with the provisions. 

Requirements for dogs and cats entering Colombia (Bogota and Medellin) 

• An original health certificate from country of origin with original (or electronic) hand and seal. Date of issuance shall not be earlier than 10 days from entry into Colombia. Said document must certify species, breed, sex, coat color, electronic ID (microchip, if pet has one), and distinguishing features. 

• Deworming and delousing treatment no earlier than 60 days before boarding and name of product used. 

• Animal’s health conditions shall be apt for transportation. 

• For dogs: rabies, Carré’s Disease (Distemper), Canine Hepatitis, (Canine and Icterohemorragiae) leptospirosis, Parvovirus, Coronavirus, and Parainfluenza. 

• For cats: Rabia Feline panleucopenia, Feline viral rhinotracheitis (FVR), and Feline calicivirus (FCV). 

• If country of origin does not apply any vaccine against any of the above diseases, the vaccination record must reflect this. 

Requirements for dogs and cats exiting Colombia (Bogota and Medellin) 

• An original health certificate–and copy thereof–issued by a Veterinary Physician. Date of issuance shall not be earlier than 10 days from entry into Colombia. Said document must certify species, breed, sex, coat color, electronic ID (microchip, if pet has one), and destination country requirements. 

• Animal’s age. 

• Dogs under 12 months old slated for export must have microchip ID compatible with HDX or FDX-B. 

• Clinical examination accrediting good health. 

• Deworming and delousing treatment as required by destination country. 

• Animal’s health conditions shall be apt for transportation. 

• Vaccination record meeting the schedule required by destination country. 

*Requirements for dogs and cats transiting Colombia (Bogotá and Medellín) 

• Health certificate issued by country of origin specifying final destination. 

• No dog or cat shall remain in transit for more than 3 days counted from entry. 

1.4 Containers or carriers allowed

For your pet to be allowed to travel with you in the cabin, its carrier or container must have the following characteristics: 

• Flexible or soft plastic pouch type 

• Interior one-piece base of absorbent material 

• Adequate ventilation 

• Sufficient space for the dog or cat to turn and lie down 

• Only one dog or cat allowed in carrier 

• Measurements for all aircraft types, Width x length x heig 

  40x30x20 centimeters/ (16x12x8 inches) 

**Remember** The container must be approved for air transportation. Consider that the weight allowed is of a total of 9 kg, including the pet and container or carrier weight.
